Google Maps has changed the world! Its satellite navigation, GPS functions, and traffic information has made going to unknown places MUCH easier! However, Google Maps has not only influenced travelling, but has also changed gaming! Google Maps is now a well known product, used at least once by 54% of smartphone owners! However, it wasn’t always like this! Here is a brief timeline of the making of Google Maps! Here is a timeline of how Google Maps has developed!

September 2004 – Google acquires ZipDash (a company which provides real time traffic analysis)
October 2004 – Google acquires a map designed by Where 2 Technologies (an Australian owned map company)
February 2005 – Google first announces its new map program
June 2005 – Google offers API keys for the public to create a duplicate of Google Map
September 2005 – Google updates the satellite imagery on the map
May 2005 – Google releases ‘Street View’
January 2012 – Google offers its map services for free!
December 2012 – Google offers an app of the map for IOS and Apple devices
October 2012 – Google changes its map to include certain moons and planets
